The Joint Intelligence Committee are not to be confused with, although they frequently are. The obsessive air of secrecy that marked their formative years has now dissipated and today the JIC gaze blearily from the shadows, ready to stand proud before the world. And party! ...or at least sit harmlessly in a corner grinning like fools.
Formed after a fortuitous meeting of minds at an online synth forum, the JIC comprises two full time committee members and a nebulous pool of special agents providing a variety of skills and fieldcraft. The JIC exists to provide an outlet for their groovily improvised and experimentally ambient musical noodles. To Promoters or Event OrganisersDo you need a live ambient chillout band? The JIC are cheerily available as sonic guns for hire at your party or event. We're keen and buzzing to do our mellow groovy thing for you, so why not drop us a line? The JIC motto is effectus super absolutionem which, as all you latin scholars know instantly, means performance above perfection. Sums it up nicely... Paul NaglePaul played his first solo gig in 1983 but for years remained in a rather serious, teutonic vein of doomy electronica as heard in such bands as Tangerine Dream. Fortunately, Paul met up with Phil Smillie and finally learned how to lighten up and party. As is typical with most late converts to anything, he threw himself into this with gusto, keen to make up for lost time. Paul writes gear reviews for Sound On Sound magazine and has programmed synthesizer patches for Roland, DSI, Access and others. Mostly he just likes to play.
Phil SmillieOn his recent musical road to Damascus, Phil rediscovered his guitar and the joys of realtime looping, met Paul Nagle and realised that making music is so much more fun when computers aren't involved. Phil's other - more production-oriented - projects include psychedelic trance combo Cerebellum and its ambient techno offshoot, Drug Squid.
Andy MasonAndy has been Kundalini's resident DJ since its inception & never fails to deliver. His mixing abilities are well documented & he has earned great respect from DJs & promoters all over the world for playing the right tunes at the right time. As well as being one half of the legendary Drug Squid & Cerebellum, he has found time to collaborate with Distortion Orchestra (under the name Light Brigade) Tim RaffertyTim is a special agent on sometime assignment to the JIC. Tim is the other half of "Headshock" (with Paul) - a much more ambient or avant garde outlet for their mutual weirdness. Their first CD "Music From Peak Experience" was a surprise hit in 2005 and their next "Explorers Of The Dreamworld" will be the followup, just as soon as the final mix is, er, mixed. Tim is currently going through a big retro phase and is probably recording something on wax cylinder as you read this. |
